MTEN | Gaels Defeat Pacific in Marathon Match, 4-3

Saint Mary's secured the 4-3 win on Saturday after Matis Bot won his match 7-6, 7-6 on court 4.

AS A SENIOR (2017-18): Competed in 17 singles matches as the No. 3 singles player... also played in 14 doubles matches on courts No. 2 and No. 3 in the dual season... won two singles matches during the fall season...defeated Andrew Newell of Portland at the Aggie Invitational, 6-0, 6-4... 7-5 in doubles contests with Calvin Jordaan...defeated Hawkin and Foley of Washington, 8-7 at the UCSB Classic...won five matches at the Aggie Invitational hosted by UC Davis...earned his first singles victory of the spring 7-6, 7-6 against Seattle...teamed up with Jackson Hawk to defeat Sacramento State in doubles action. 

AS A JUNIOR (2016-17): Won five singles matches during his junior campaign...began the year with back-to-back singles victories against Sonoma State and Holy Names...posted a 6-1, 6-3 conference win over LMU...earned his first doubles win of the season paired with Manuel De Luis Lamelas against Northern Colorado...competed at the Aggie Invitational, UCSB Classic, ITA Regionals, and SMC Invitational in the fall...picked up a consolation win in the Aggie Invitational against Nevada's Jonathan Aremon with a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (9) decision.

AS A SOPHOMORE (2015-16): Competed at the Aggie Invitational...Also played in the Tiger Invitational in Stockton, Calif., and advanced to the Singles championship... Won an exciting 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 final to claim the Singles "C" championship at the Tiger Invitational ... Went 3-3 in singles action during his second season as a Gael...Played at the No. 5 and No. 6 spot for SMC...Collected wins over players from Eastern Washington and Santa Clara...Went an undefeated 2-0 in doubles action partnering with James Markiewicz and Nash Vollenweider.

AS A FRESHMAN (2014-15): Earned his first collegiate win with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Fresno State's Jakob Keppelmann at the Aggie Invitational ... Also competed at the ITA Northwest Regional and Gael Classic ... Nearly pulled off the upset of the tournament at the ITA Regional when he took Cal's Gregory Bayane to three sets ... Won a consolation match over Holy Names' Rafael Martinez at the Gael Classic ... Made a significant contribution in his first season as a Gael, establishing himself as a consistent starter in the lower portion of the lineup ... Went 4-10 in singles while playing everywhere from No. 4 to No. 6 on the team sheet ... Won matches against players from Holy Names, Navy, Gonzaga and Santa Clara ... 6-0, 6-2 win over Gonzaga's Sergio Chip helped the Gaels to their best result of the season, a 4-2 victory over the Bulldogs ... did not compete in doubles.

PRIOR TO SAINT MARY'S: A native of Hillsborough, Calif. and graduate of Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo, Campana joined the Saint Mary's men's tennis team for the 2014-15 season ... Four-year varsity player at Serra earned All-West Catholic Athletic League honors four times and was named to the first team in each of his final two seasons ... Named team MVP in 2013 after helping Serra win its first league title in 20 years ... Earned prestigious Scholar-Athlete award for maintaining a 3.7 unweighted grade point average while also competing at a high athletic level ... Has been ranked in the NorCal top 20 in both 18-under and 16-under divisions.
