MTEN | Gaels Pull Through for Comeback Win Over Lopes

Feb. 18, 2018

MORAGA, Calif. — In an impressive performance, Saint Mary’s men’s tennis (2-5) came from behind to down visiting Grand Canyon (4-2) Sunday afternoon at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex.

Down 1-0 heading into singles competition, the Gaels secured four singles victories beginning on court 6. Daniel Krutik put away his match in convincing fashion with a straight-set win to tie the match at one apiece.

Freshman Chambers Easterling got his first collegiate win on court 4 in straight-sets.

“Today was a great comeback win,” said Saint Mary’s head coach Greg Kennett. “We let a close doubles point get away, but very proud of the way the team fought.”

“Great to see Chambers get his first win and really proud of Krutik for continuing his solid play.”

The top of the lineup again took care of business as both Damon Kesaris and Nash Vollenweider claimed victories on courts 1 and 2.

“Damon and Nash continue to play strong at the top of the lineup,” said Kennett.

The Gaels return to the courts March 3 at UC Santa Barbara at 12 p.m. PT.
