OAK BROOK, Ill. -- The Saint Mary's women's basketball team may have a high school All-American headed its way next season after Taycee Wedin, a 2018-19 National Letter of Intent signee, was announced Wednesday as a nominee for the annual McDonald's All-American game.

Wedin, currently a senior at La Salle High School in Milwaukie, Ore., was one of 700 top high school male and female basketball players nominated from across the country. She was among 16 female nominees from Oregon. The McDonald's All-American Games Selection Committee will identify the top 24 boys and 24 girls to play in the annual event, with their selections being announced on Tuesday. This year, the games are being held at Philips Arena in Atlanta on March 28.

Wedin is one of Oregon's most prolific scorers and one of the best 3-point shooters on the West Coast, according to SMC head coach Paul Thomas. This season she is already back doing what she has done throughout her whole career at La Salle High, leading the Falcons in scoring at 19.3 points per game and shooting better than 40 percent from 3-point distance. She is only 215 points away from the 2,000 career points mark, and has already scored 231 in 12 games. She is also averaging 2.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.3 steals per game.

Wedin was one of three outstanding guards the Gaels signed to NLIs in November, and they will all be a part of SMC's 2018-19 squad. Milly Yates, another November signee, enrolled early at Saint Mary's and is already with the team this season.

The 17th Annual McDonald's All-American Girls Game will tip off at 2 p.m. PST on March 28 and will air live on ESPN2.
