SB | Gaels Host Davis, Travel South for UC Riverside Tournament

MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary’s (3-11) will play a total of seven games this week beginning with a doubleheader versus UC Davis on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at Cottrell Field.

The first game begins at 1 p.m. while the back end of the doubleheader will start at approximately 3 p.m. Fans can follow live stats on Gaels’ Softball schedule page or by clicking HERE.

The Gaels will continue the busy week down south to take part in the UC Riverside Tournament starting Friday. The Gaels will face off UC Riverside, Stony Brook and Brown during the three-day tournament.

Last Week Recap
Last week, the Gaels lost their home opener versus No. 19 California, 3-0, but bounced back and defeated CSU Bakersfield three consecutive times for the home sweep.

SMC was led by senior pitcher Katlyn Whitt who was named the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week this past Monday for not allowing an earned run in 14 innings pitched.

Through 14 games of the season, SMC is led by senior shortstop Hailey Sparacino and third baseman Julia McCormack. Among the team leaders at the plate, Sparacino’s batting average is .316 with three home runs and five runs batted in. Mccormack is batting .278 with four extra base hits and a slugging percentage of .472.

About UC Davis
Wednesday’s opponent UC Davis boasts a 10-6 overall record and has a three game winning streak which includes a win vs No. 18 Oklahoma State. UC Davis is led by utility Alyse Rojas who has a .377 batting average, and freshman pitcher Brooke Yanez who currently has a 0.93 earned run average in 60 innings pitched.

UC Riverside Tournament 
SMC faces off against the host school, UC Riverside twice during this weekend’s tournament. The Highlanders are 11-5 and currently are on a two-game winning streak. Offensively, the Highlanders are led by Jenna Curtan who has a .468 batting average and nine RBI’s. On the mound, Tayler Misfeldt has been phenomenal supporting a 1.86 ERA.

Another team that the Gaels play two times in this weekend’s tournament is Stony Brook (2-3). In only five games so far infielder Allyssa Malong has a batting average of .400 and sophomore pitcher Taylor Pechin has a 1.66 ERA in four games appearances.

The Gaels will also face off versus Ivy League members Brown. The Brown Bears are 1-4 and have lost four in a row. Junior Meghan Wimmer has been a bright spot for the Bears batting .533 with four runs batted in.
