SB | Three Gaels Named to WCC All-Academic Teams

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Saint Mary's softball is well represented in the West Coast Conference All-Academic team, as three Gaels- Katie Moss, Katlyn Whitt and Bailey Lotz were all honored for their work inside the classroom, the conference announced today.

To be considered, a student-athlete must be of sophomore standing or older, maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.

Senior Katie Moss collects her third straight year as an honoree on the WCC All-Academic squad. The fourth year pitcher currently holds a 3.30 cumulative GPA as a Kinesiology: Health Promotion major.

Moss continues to be a strong leader for SMC, with 139.0 innings pitched and an impressive 132 strikeouts for a 2.57 ERA. Moss is second in the conference in strikeouts and innings pitched. She is also fifth in earned run average.

Junior Katlyn Whitt is having a tremendous year on the mound and was also named to the All-Academic team for the first time.

Whitt (3.37 GPA; Justice, Community and Leadership) is second on the team with a 2.71 ERA in 93.0 innings pitched.

A sophomore, Bailey Lotz has been a key contributor for the Gaels with 41 starts as the first baseman. The second year player was named on the Honorable Mention team as she holds a 3.22 GPA in Kinesiology: Health and Human Performance.

The Gaels will play their final series of 2017 tomorrow and Saturday versus conference champions No. 20 BYU. SMC will host its Senior Day in between the doubleheader on Saturday to honor the accomplishments of Moss and Giana Bilotta.

First pitch on Friday is set for 3 p.m. at Cottrell Field. The first game on Saturday, May 13 will take place at 12 p.m. with the season finale set to take place at 2 p.m.
