BVB | Six Gaels Earn WCC All-Academic Honors

Six Saint Mary's beach volleyball players earn 2017 West Coast Conference All-Academic honors Wednesday, topping last season's total of four players.

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Six Saint Mary's beach volleyball players earn 2017 West Coast Conference All-Academic honors Wednesday, topping last season's total of four players.

Lindsey Knudsen, Payton Rund and Emily Bible are among 10 players named to the WCC All-Academic Team while Lindsey Calvin, Mary Hernandez and Alexis Salmons all earn honorable mentions.

Knudsen, an Economics major with a team-high 3.98 GPA, and Rund, a Kinesiology major with a 3.67 GPA, teamed up at the No. 1 position for SMC to go 24-5 over the 2017 season. Both Gaels were named to the All-WCC Preseason Team and All-WCC First Team. They were honored with DiG Magazine Pair of the Week for the week of March 20 and ended Kelly Claes and Sarah Hughes', of USC, 103 match winning-steak.

Bible, a Communications major with a 3.55 GPA, played the entire season with Sarah Chase at the No. 2 pair and finished with the second-best record on the team, 21-8. Bible and Chase were the only Gael pair to go undefeated, 5-0, at the WCC Tournament.

After finishing the season 13-16 with multiple partners at the three pair, Hernandez adds honorable mention to her list of accolades by posting a 3.49 in Business Administration. Calvin finished the season 13-13 overall at both the three and four spots to earn honorable mention with a 3.88 GPA in English, the second-highest GPA on the team. Salmons, a redshirt-junior majoring in Communications, earns honorable mention with a GPA of 3.32 after going 16-11 at both the No. 3 and 4 pairs.
