WTEN | Gaels Strong on Day 2 of Cal Winter Invite

BERKELEY, Calif. — Now in the full swing of the spring season, Saint Mary’s women’s tennis won six matches on day two of the Cal Winter Invitational on Saturday.

The Gaels won a total of four singles matches, highlighted by Vanessa Nommensen’s comeback victory over Cal Poly’s Molly Reed. Nommensen dropped the first set 6-3, but came storming back in the tough second and third sets. The senior clinched the victory with the 6-4 advantage in the final set.

First year player Mariia Kozyreva continues to show her strong form from the fall season after winning a straight-set match over Susanne Boyden. Emma Critser and Danielle McIntyre also won in straight-sets .

The doubles contests were also bright spots on Saturday, as SMC won two out of three matches. Freshmen duo of Hind Abdelouahid and Kozyreva worked well together ass the team powered past their opponents, 6-2.
