WTEN | Gaels Come From Behind to Defeat Fresno State

Feb. 11, 2018

FRESNO, Calif. — In a close dual match, Saint Mary’s women’s tennis (2-4) came from behind to defeat Fresno State Sunday afternoon at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.

"Very proud of the team today," said Saint Mary's head coach Simon Harston. "Slow start in doubles, but really fought hard and found a way in singles."

Down 1-0 heading into singles action, the Gaels impressed in close matches that went down the wire.

First year player Hind Abdelouahid secured the straight-set victory for her second win of the season on court 2.

Seniors Kareena Manji and Vanessa Nommensen clinched the win for the Gaels after winning in three-set matches. After dropping the first set, both Manji and Nommensen blew past their opponents to secure the 4-3 win for SMC.

"Very cool to see the seniors close out the match from 3-2 down," said Harston.

Saint Mary’s will head back home next weekend to face UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 12 p.m. PT
