VB | Gaels Travel To Bay Area Rivals

MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary’s women’s volleyball team is on the road this week, ready to face Bay Area rivals San Francisco on Thursday and Santa Clara on Saturday.

Thursday, Oct. 19, 7 p.m. - Saint Mary’s (5-13, 1-7 WCC) at San Francisco (3-18, 0-8 WCC)
Saturday, Oct. 21, 1 p.m - Saint Mary’s at Santa Clara (9-11, 2-6 WCC)

Saint Mary’s (5-13, 1-7 WCC) fell to Pacific, 3-1, on Saturday at McKeon Pavilion, moving its record to 1-6 in WCC play. Sienna Young and Mary Hernandez recorded their first double-doubles of the year. Young had 10 kills and 11 digs, and Hernandez collected 21 assists and six digs. Lindsey Calvin had a team-leading hitting percentage of .400 with 11 kills.

The Gaels have yet to win a road match this season. Saint Mary’s dominated San Francisco on Sept. 26, giving it its first win in WCC play.

Lindsey Calvin continues to lead Saint Mary’s with 148 kills. Young, with her first double-double of the season on Saturday, is second with 141 kills (2.43 kills per set). Lindsey Knudsen and Mary Wilkerson carry the Gaels in digs, Wilkerson with 214 digs and Knudsen collecting 132. Alexsa “Crash” Parker has a team-best 28 service aces. Morgan Hughes notes a leading hitting percentage of. 303 with 2.09 kills per set for the Gaels.

San Francisco is 0-7 in West Coast Conference season. The Dons hold an 0-4 record at the War Memorial Gymnasium.

Ronda Erica leads the Dons with 79 kills (3.04 kills per set). Sabrina Blackwell leads the team with 88 digs (3.38 digs per set), followed by second-best Erin Anthony who has 61 digs (2.35 digs per set).

Santa Clara (9-11, 2-6 WCC) played a competitive match at Pepperdine on Thursday, winning in five matches, putting the Broncos at 2-6 in conference play. Santa Clara is 3-4 at the Leavey Center.

Middle Blocker Jensen Cunningham has a team-best 235 kills, notching 3.09 kills per set. Setter Kirsten Mead and libero Tatiana San Juan lead the Broncos in digs, Mead collecting 209 and San Juan with 208. Santa Clara has 43 kills more than their opponents on the season and are out-hitting their opponents .216 to .218.

Saint Mary’s will host a two-match home stand next week against Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount on Oct. 26 and 28 at McKeon Pavilion.

Sienna Young set a career high with 16 kills and the Saint Mary's women's volleyball team posted one of its best hitting performances of the year Tuesday in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-14) West Coast Conference sweep over San Francisco at McKeon Pavilion.
