BASE | Sweep of USF Complete after Gaels Win on Sunday

MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary's completed the sweep over the University of San Francisco with a 4-3 win on Sunday afternoon at Louis Guisto Field.
It was the Gaels first sweep of the Dons in over 20 years, and all three games were decided by one run to put SMC at 7-5 in one-run ballgames this season.
Ryan Wiltse had another great outing, as the sophomore threw a career high seven innings on 115 pitches and allowed just three runs on five hits. He walked four with five strike outs in his longest outing at the Division I level after throwing a complete game for Fresno City College on April 23 of last year.
The Gaels scored in the first inning juat as they have in 18 games this season, and are now winners in 12 of those games. Saint Mary's took advantage of a Dons error and a passed ball to get a runner to third, and Chris Santiago plated Gavin Napier on an RBI groundout for an early 1-0 lead on Santiago's team-leading 28th run batted in.
Another productive out would lead to a run in the third for the Gaels when Blake McDonald hit a sac fly to right that scored Nick Mistone to go up 2-0.
But the Dons would take the lead with a crooked number in the fourth. A Wiltse curve ball struck the toe of the Dons center fielder in the left-handed batter's box with two outs, before a triple to left center put USF on the board. A double and a single followed to plate two more runs and the Dons were on top 3-2.
Saint Mary's answered in the fifth when Mistone doubled down the left field line to start the inning and Kyle Velazquez singled through the middle to bring him in and tie the game at 3-3.
The Dons went to a lefty out of the pen with two down and the Gaels countered with Blake Mann for left hander Trey Winget. Mann hit a line drive to right that dropped in front of a diving attempt by the left fielder to score Velazquez, and Mann made it all the way to third for his third triple of the season.
Walks were the only blemish of the day for Wiltse, and he would exit after a lead off walk with a 2-0 count to the Dons Harris Williams III before Connor Linchey checked into the game. Though Williams would walk, Linchey struck out the next three batters to strand both runners.
Chris Santiago switched from first base to the mound as he did in Friday's 3-2 win and pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his second save of the year.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
The Gaels are now 20-3 when they outhit their opponent and 13-4 when they don't commit an error.
